When the Tao was first written it was only one page that is translated over and over. The word tao translates into the way and the way you perceive it is up to you. It is in the way everyone walks it is only that when someone first hears about it there is three reactions. You can laugh at it, or say that is cool maybe follow it for a small time and follow something else, or you can begin to unlock its meaning. When you begin to unlock it there are many ways you can walk through it. The tao pools in low areas but it also flows upwards as well, you can find strength in it when you are down and you can rest on it when you are soaring high.
For some reason modern day taoism, people believe that you should live a hippy lifestyle and the less you do the more is done. The fact is the person who started taoism went to work everyday and if you do not work you are broken. The act of not doing is by doing until doing is no longer needed. There when the work is done you should rest.
However, while he was at work he did something no one else ever did. He picked up the enchant scrolls and read them. As he read them he began to understand past the fog that most people are trapped in. He understood the enchants and had to find a way to separate between gods and God. The more he understood the more he found himself drifting away from the people who choose only to believe in what everyone around them believes and to understand anything different than what everyone has been taught would be crazy.
Perhaps it was because he was so unknown and a simple man that went to work everyday when he was younger. That no one noticed the stories he would say and that is why when he met with Confucius he tried to tell him that to say more you must speak less.
